Nick Johnson

Chair, African Prison Project

Nick's interests lie in the reform of African criminal and civil systems of justice including penal and penitentiary policies. He is retired from full time employment but is still an active consultant. His former posts were Director of the Oxford Institute of Legal Practice, Professor of Law at the University of Warwick and Rector of the Institute of Legal Practice and Development in Rwanda. He received an award from the Rwandan Minister of Justice in 2018 for his work at the Institute.

Besides chairing the Board of the African Prison Project he advises the charity on its educational programmes. He is also a volunteer teacher in the prisons in Kenya and Uganda.
