John Harrington

Professor of Global Health Law, Centre Coordinator

John researches and writes on global health law, law and literature, and legal education. His work combines cultural studies, materialist political economy and socio-legal approaches to the development of legal doctrine and regulation more generally. 

His current writing project,  Figuring the Nation in Global Health Law. Sovereignty, Security and Development, draws on extensive research in East Africa and will appear in the Routledge series on Law, Development and Globalization in 2019. Towards a Rhetoric of Medical Law (Routledge) was runner-up for the SLSA Legal Theory Book Prize in 2017.

Other projects include a British Academy funded-study of Kenya’s implementation of intellectual property rights in traditional knowledge (with Peter Munyi, University of Nairobi, and Harriet Deacon, Open University) and a history of development of legal education in East Africa in the period of decolonization (with Ambreena Manji, Cardiff University).
